Cecelia Barker provides English Language Services to internationals. She assists her ESL students in identifying real-life language problems — including cultural misunderstandings — and coaches them on possible solutions involving pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and deeper understanding.

CECELIA BARKER is from Northern California. After a long sojourn in the UK, 18 months in Tokyo, and another four years in the southwest of France, Cecelia finally landed in Raleigh ready to settle in and teach English to internationals. Fluent in French, Cecelia has fine-tuned her language skills through translation training (UK, 1999), and a Master in English Studies (France, 2012), becoming a Certified Teacher of English as a Second Language (2013). Prior to this, Cecelia worked in business as an office administrator, and studied European Business and Finance in the UK. As of 2020, of course everything changed, and classes now take place online. What a journey!
Cecelia is passionate about helping internationals feel more comfortable in a new country – having been an international herself since the age of 10 – and enjoys using her knowledge and experience to encourage students as they gain confidence speaking English. Her particular interest in pronunciation and fluency began when, as a child, she was bilingual in Spanish and English... she still remembers ‘dulces’ and ‘abuelita’ with great fondness!
